The Moth God Lives In Tulsa

Well, at least to me, he looked like the God of all moths. He is almost 4 inches long and quite beautiful in the most intricate pattern of at least 30 different shades of brown. I left him a penny as tribute to insure my cashmere from his minions. He seemed pleased. I have actually had to replace his penny every day, since they disappear every night. I wonder what he is doing with them?

Stampin' Up! Greenhouse Gala Designer Series Paper Card

The Greenhouse Gala Paper makes such easy cards. I just cut around some flowers from the edges of the sheet and glued them down in the middle of a Pear Pizzazz base that was embossed with Stampin' Up! Framed Tulips. Then I added a French "Thank You" in Real Red on an oval backed by another Real Red oval.

Mostly Stampin' Up! Card - Sweet Stitches Designer Series Paper

The Sweet Stitches Designer Series Paper really made a fun card. I started with Crushed Curry and used the cute measuring tape embossing border from Cuttlebug. Then I started layering - using Melon Mambo as an accent. I made cardstock button in every color, but just matching the green looked the best. Then I added a row of Melon Mambo Rick Rack , cut with the Papertrey die.

West Coast Woman Discovers Tulsa

This place is so much fun. I feel like I have landed in the 1950's. Everyone smiles at you and says "Welcome to Tulsa". The housing prices are so low that most people can afford both a house and a truck. And the sky is so blue - unless it's raining - and then it gets really exciting. I never understood people who would move to Seattle and tell us that they loved rain. And move away within 3 years. But the cold grey drizzle that hangs over Seattle 9+ months of the year is nothing like the dramatic lightning and booming thunder that characterizes Tulsa rain storms. Or as the weather reports call it, "severe weather".

Our house is sold. But my husband's transfer to Tulsa won't happen until December. For the last ten years he has wanted to live in Portland, since he has so many good friends there. So we are renting a loft in the Pearl District. It should be lots of fun!

Catch Me If You Can - The Musical

Broadway Bound??
Last night I went to a Spotlight presentation on the new musical version of Catch Me If You Can. Wonderful singers, beautiful music, and the amazing Bob Mackie. So why were all the comments I heard while people were leaving negative? The lyrics! They were so unbelievably bad. One song about an ant making butter out of cream and a cockroach making coffee out of beans (and sweat - yuck), was as bad as it sounds. There was one really good song that might end up being called "Goodbye", but it referred to the previous part of the musical as "The greatest story ever told". Huh? Greatest story? Wasn't that the Bible? Certainly not this one. I do understand what the lyricist is trying to do. From the standpoint of the main character with his massive ego, "greatest" would be his choice. And in the context of the era, if we accepted the old song about the ant trying to move the rubber tree plant, a cockroach sweating onto coffee beans should have worked for us. Even in the 60's this would have been hard to listen to. But as I said at the beginning, the singers were amazing. Norbert Leo Butz, Aaron Tveit, and Tom Wopat could just pull this off. Aaron Tveit was so talented and likeable. His "Goodbye" song could make you cry; he was that good. Oh, and Tom Wopat was the real Luke Duke from the Dukes of Hazzards TV show. You'd never know it now.

Cards For Summer

The Sushi set from Amuse is so cute. I colored the Kimono and fan with colored pencils and used Copics for the sushi. My favorite part of this card is the Laurel CornerAdorner CardCreator punch from EK Success. While I think the sentiment is perfect, I wish I had mounted it with a little more color.

I loved the sentiment from Twisted Two, "It's a straight from the carton kind of day". I didn't think it would take two weeks to get here; and when I couldn't wait any longer, I used the "Here's the Scoop" which was part (and the name) of the original set. I used Copics for the picture and punched the ovals with Nestibilities. How did we ever get along without them! I used a Fiskar' Tiny Flowers embossing plate on the pink. It echoes the flowers on the chair rather nicely.

Who doesn't like Amuse's great new summer stamp, Snorkel boy? (Although I don't see any evidence of a snorkel.) I colored him in with Copics and cut him out. I punched a palm tree with one of my oldest punches - no brand name on it anywhere, and glued it under the edge of Amuse's great new gingham paper edged with Fiskars' Boundary Waters punch. I also added bubbles to the water with EK Success Swiss Cheese border punch. I punched a sun out of the Amuse yellow gingham paper and think I will have to add it to the sky. The sentiment is an old Amuse one.
