Just because everyone else manages to give Ugg's a bad name by only wearing the funniest looking ones and wearing those funny ones with really unusual outfits is no reason to avoid the brand totally. Those suede clogs are cute and comfortable - and with that snow we had on Monday, the fuzzy wool lining the toes was worth its weight in gold. I also have a new pair of those Cole Haan flats with the same construction as a pair of Nike sneakers. They were on sale in Hawaii, the last place I was that had an actual Cole Haan store. Please bring to Oklahoma the following stores: Trader Joe's, Nordstrom, Cole Haan, Ikea, Sur la Table, and just for fun - Hermès. Any ones you'd like to add?
Oh, that just about covers it! Except for one: Mariage Frères. Surely they'll want to follow on the heels of Hermès. :)
ReplyDeleteOr at least Dean & Deluca! Thanks for the Wedding Imperial - John ususally can't be bothered with loose tea, but he had used this tea for every second pot, calling it Catherine's Tea. (As in, where can we get more of "Catherine's Tea"? Certainly not in Oklahoma! If Amanda chooses Berkeley, they will send her to France, and she can send some home then. Yeah!)
ReplyDeleteTrader Joe's is great fun! I heard about it when Bill and co. found them around Vegas, or maybe it was So.Cal. I first got to experience Trader Joe's in St. Paul, MN. I see they are opening up soon in Plano, TX, Dallas & Ft Worth...and OMG in Glasgow! (about as convenient to me as TX is to you...) They are owed by Aldi - we have several around here! I'm going to cross all my fingers and toes for their rapid expansion!
ReplyDeleteAgreed! I have a much-beloved pair of UGGs snow boots. They are much more weather-appropriate than the saggy, wear-with-a-Paris-Hilton-dress UGGs. And I think they're cuter, too, but in a functional way. But you can be the judge, though this post only contains a stock photo:

I have some UGG boots that I wear only when it is snowy. They are warm and ugly but great in the snow.
ReplyDeleteDid you know Dean & Deluca started in Wichita? We have a warehouse but no store.
I would love a Nordstrom, and Marshalls.
What? Debbi, did you say Dean & Deluca started in Wihcita? That is so cool! (Does Martha know?) So if I do mail order, it might be closer than I thought. I don't remember seeing you in anything other than really cute shoes, so I must assume you never put a picture of your old Ugg's on your blog.
ReplyDeleteWell Anne, I searched all over for that picture of your Ugg boots - I remembered seeing some atypical, but cute and useful Ugg's on one of the blogs I always read, but wasn't positive it was yours, or I would have gone back further and found it. All part of the point I had, that Ugg's became popular because even before they became iconic, they did a great job making shoes/boots that work.
Oh Shelley - a Trader Joe's in Glasgow? That I have to see. And I had no idea that Aldi had any connection to Trader Joe's, but I can see some similarity now that I am thinking about it. I was in Oklahoma for over 6 months before I even saw one - and that was only because someone sent me there looking for German Christmas cookies. It's right next to a Cracker Barrel, which I never realized was an actual place. (I would have been just as prepared to see a chain called "The Wheat Thin", "Jello Cafe", or "Campbell's Soup Palace".)
KC just got our first Trader Joes this past year. And I am wondering about Hermes here...it seems a big enough place to warrant one.
ReplyDeleteI think Hermès is more careful these days to be sure of putting their stores in places with enough customers to support them, and not just using population figures. We had a beautiful Hermès boutique open and then close in Seattle - (not the only lux store to be snubbed by the hearty Northwesterners). However in Hawaii, there are a quite few and they are very well stocked.
