January 6th Brings Season 3 Of Downton Abbey To The US - I'm Excited, But I Won't Think Less Of Anyone Who Doesn't Care

I love Television and am endlessly entertained by things like Big Bang Theory and Folye's War.  But I would only watch Upstairs Downstairs if I needed something to watch while I was sewing.  And Downton Abbey is the same type of serialized drama of manners and class.  I enjoyed watching the first two seasons, and my husband just expressed an interest in catching up by watching them too, so we can watch Season 3 together.  Guess I'll be watching them with him, because I am a social TV watcher.  And Downton Abbey has turned into one of the most socially acceptable TV watching possible.
I think Downton is no better than the old Dallas series from the 80's - and I loved the old Dallas series. I would have happily watched the new reinvented Dallas, but hated to watch Larry Hagman, who looked like death to me.  And since he passed away just recently, I was right.  So I never got back into the series, even though now I won't have to watch him wasting away.
But my point, and I do have one, is that no one should feel bad for not getting into Downton Abbey.  I'm not judging you.

  1. I was so looking forward to watching DA on Christmas Day... Not sure I'll be watching the rest of the series, whenever that comes up.

  2. Downton Abbey is one of the few shows that my wife and I both like.

  3. I've only a few episodes of DA. I like it but it but somehow it seldom seems convenient to watch it. Maybe one day I'll get the DVD's. Meanwhile it is good to know we can still be friends :-)

  4. As you already know, I missed Seasons 1 and 2 when they aired, but bought the DVDs and have almost finished them, to be ready for Season 3. I have to admit I am thoroughly enjoying them, although as someone on my blog commented, they are a soap opera. But such a classy one!

  5. Hi Shelley - Was there a Christmas Day special here too? I'll have to check around for it. If I lived in England, I might never watch TV, since the normal programming seemed to be 90% reality the last time I visited. I'd just get DVD's of the good stuff that they export to the US.

  6. Hi Yogi - I am amazed at the things on TV that John and I both like, but I never expected Downton Abbey to be one of them. I think Nick (our son) actually convinced him that he should watch it, since he and Kelsey (Nick's girlfriend) watch it together.
Our favorite shows are Law and Order Criminal Intent, Elementary, Person of Interest, and Big Bang Theory. One just reruns and the others all on Thursday night. What to do the rest of the time?

  7. Hi Darla - We can still be friends because I love how you think! If you are still wondering weather or not to grow out your hair, I vote grow. It's so easy to put up a fast twist any time you don't want to work too hard.

  8. Hi Sanda - I am impressed that someone was brave enough to call it a "soap opera"! (Was it me?) (No, I'm pretty sure I would have chosen a less inflammatory phrase.) It was Ida, wasn't it? I love, love, love her! I don't think she blogs, but I wish I could find all of her comments somewhere. You do know, Sanda, that you bring together one of the most diverse groups of faithful readers and commenters.

  9. I thoroughly enjoyed about half of season 1 of Downton Abbey, then a few social engagements clashed, episodes were missed and I lost track of the storyline. I think I will have to track down the series online and watch it over again from scratch, because I did really enjoy the parts we did see!
Regarding the new series of Dallas, was stunned to see how Suellen hasn't aged a DAY!!!
    Happy New Year Beryl!

  10. I love DA and am really looking forward to it! I am glad to hear from the rest of the fans out there. A bizzillion fans cannot be wrong....

  11. Hi Beryl, yes it was Ida. Now here's some BREAKING NEWS. My husband said he'd watch the first episode of Season 1 when I got the DVDs and he couldn't stop! How he's a DA addict, just like me. He thinks it's great and I never thought he would. Just finished Episode 1/Season 3. Wasn't it great? Shirley McLaine just made it!!

  12. Hi Carolyn - I agree about how you Suellen looks. Now that I live in Oklahoma, I actually visit Dallas frequently for shopping. Especially the IKEA, whose bookcases I love - most of them too flimsy for books, but oh, so cheap! And perfect for spices, sewing supplies, brick-a-brack, DVD's, etc. And the women in Dallas really are beautiful at all ages. Like the women in Oklahoma, they make a real effort every day.

  13. Hi Maureenz - A bizzillion fans and more every day! Is there an new one this weekend? Do we think Matthew should take Lavina's father's money? I'll bet he doesn't.

  14. Hi Sanda - How funny! My husband and son sat and watched the first three episodes of Season 1 last night. And I fell asleep after the 1st, so they were still watching without me for 2 more hours. So I think we can say they are fans, too - just like your husband. I think the next logical step is to go to England and visit Highclere Castle, where it's filmed.
