Oh, and don't suggest we ask any of my husband's other relatives, because (other than our children who don't have a clue who this is) he doesn't have any.

Mysterious Stranger In The Hawaiian Print Blouse
Got any idea who this is? Well, neither do I! John at least admits to it being one of his family's pictures, so I don't need to rack my brain anymore. Not that it is logical for me to have considered that it might be a picture of someone from my family. Since the plane crashed into my grandparent's house in the 1960's, we don't actually have any old pictures. And you have to admit that this one OLD picture. But my point, and I do have one - is that if you have any old pictures without anything written on them, and you have even the faintest idea or guess about how might be in the picture - write it on the back. Because, otherwise you might just as well throw them away, which is what I am going to do with this fine, handsome woman's picture.

I've been fairly persistant in tracking down the identities in our old family pictures, but you're right to remind me that I should tag many of our own family photos.
ReplyDeleteI liked the idea of putting a fake aunt's name on the back and leaving this picture with my husband's other family pictures, but couldn't play such a joke on our kids.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me, my mother's last living cousin is in Texas and he's 90 something. I finally tracked him down and have emailed one of his sons a few times - turns out he lives in Nice! But I need to send some of my mystery photos to the cousin to see if he remembers who they are. I gather he's becoming forgetful, but you always hear that the elderly can remember their youth the best, so my fingers are crossed! Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeletehi beryl
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with you more on this one! Writing the name on pictures is vital. We have many from grandparents and don't have a clue. My mother was always good to write names and dates but unfortunately, on the front, not the back. Something we always teased her about was on a trip to the zoo she made many animal pictures and wrote "Memphis Zoo On the front, including on the front of a picture of all we kids lined up. For some reason we always thought that hilarious -- that she had labeled us zoo animals.
Hi Shelley - You are so right about a 90 year old remembering the past. I swim with a bunch of older people and when they get started on their youth in Tulsa or Bartlesville, I learn more than any history book would teach me. That is so funny about your distant cousin being right there in Nice. Good luck with the picture identification!
ReplyDeleteHi Sanda - I love hearing about your mother. She sounds adorable and fun. Funny to think of visiting Memphis for anything other than to see Graceland.
ReplyDeleteDon't throw out the picture! Whoever it is, we'll never find another picture of them.
ReplyDeleteMy sister and I spent many hours with our dad, before he died, writing names, locations & time frames on the back of family pictures. Thank goodness.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me so sad to go to estate sales or antique malls and see old family photos for sale.
I've told all of our neices & nephews (we have no children), I will come back to haunt them if they put our pictures up for sale after we are dead!
Hi Amanda! OK, Honey, I'll keep that picture. I didn't forget that Dad's relatives are yours too. She is an attractive woman and is probably buried in San Francisco near you. (With the rest of Dad's mother's family.)
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy - I am alway confused by people who put their relative's pictures up for sale. I love how you've already informed the nieces and nephews not to do that!
ReplyDeleteI was just over reading about your trip. It sounds like you had such a great time. You and your husband must travel well together.
