A Hurricane, For Me? You Shouldn't Have!

First it was going to be Hurricane Beryl, then I became a Tropical Storm, came ashore and weakened, and now I'm just a Tropical Depression.  I feel like I'm back in Seattle again, except for that "Tropical" part.Stay safe!

  1. Thanks Beryl, we did. It came through Central Florida on Sunday but after we had our family cookout and the kids had a chance to swim. I thought of you when I heard what they named it. I have not kept up with the blog world lately and am anxious to hear and read how the wedding went.

  2. Jeanne, you sweet woman! I am so glad you're safe.
I was in Chicago for a week staying at an hotel with Internet that was so expensive, I refused to pay for it. Then traveling from Oklahoma to Southern California by car with a huge wedding dress covering the back seat. And in less than two weeks, I feel like I've missed a whole year of news. Much as I like to make comparisons to days gone by, I can't think of a single parallel to this feeling. Maybe the mail ship to America sinking in the 1800's?
The wedding is in two weeks and we are in warp speed mode. My daughter would love to make her own cake and is obviously not in love with the current dress. Since I sew at the speed of light and am very experienced with making formal wear, I can easily make her another. Just need her input, so I don't go wrong.

  3. Bless you Beryl. You are truly a great Mom! My daughter was older when she married and planned the whole thing. All I had to do is show up:-) When my son and daughter were growing I was very involved and I think at that point in my life I was sooo grateful someone else was making the decisions.

I have not sewn for a while and just starting to think about purchasing a sewing machine. Mine wore out. I am definitely not as accomplished as you. Was your first dress the sack dress? LOL

  4. Imagine having a hurricane named after you! How exciting. Only knowing me I'd feel guilty about whatever damage and death my namesake caused. Better to just deal with the Depression...

  5. Dang, I'd rather be a hurricane than a depression. :(

  6. Oh you clever girl, to be sewing a wedding dress on short notice. I envy your creativity! I would be a nervous wreck! I hope you will be able to slow down and enjoy the festivities.

  7. Hi Jeanne - I can't imagine getting to just show up. I used to think I would put so much care into choosing just the right dress as mother of the bride, but the truth is that it is so unimportant in light of all the rest of the stuff that needs to get done first. I can't imagine living without a sewing machine. There is a wonderful little lightweight one by Janome called the Gem Platinum that I would get if one of my old machines wore out.
My first dress I ever sewed all by myself was aprincess seamed dress and I was in the 5th grade.

  8. Hi Shelley - I agree with you on the distress it would cause me to hear on the news that anyone had died in this storm.

  9. Hi Terri - I think Seattle made me take Depression more seriously that California or Oklahoma does. But having a hurricane named after me was going to be kind of exciting.

  10. Hi Sanda - I have an it pretty easy, since my daughter has such a cute figure and such beautiful skin that I don't have a long list of styles I can't make for her. I wonder if it will all fall into place at the last moment and I will get to relax. We'll see. Thanks!
