The first Kolache stand had Kolaches made by angels - the most fabulous ones you can imagine - still warm and almost fluffy, not too sweet and nicely fruity, just the slightest bit yeasty. Made by church ladies, actually. Not all Kolaches are created equal, and the other stands weren't up to these standards - those were merely wonderful. Yum!
John with the Queen of the Festival and another unauthentically dressed woman. The costumes are a bit of one regions traditions mixed with those of others. But very cute!
Happy Cinco de Mayo!
I don't think I've ever sampled a kolache. The pronunciation of Prague is doing a number of my head...I keep pronouncing it over and over.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'd forgotten about PrAgue, OK. Don't think I've ever had a kolache, not even in Prahhgue (and I've been several times). I had a friend in high school who was regularly the Czech queen, but I never went to the Czech festival... I wasn't a very good tourist in my home state. Well done on you Czeching things out (sorry).
ReplyDeleteThe festival looks like so much fun! I hope that once my husband retires we can do more fun things like this.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a hoot n'a holler! I'd love to try one of those kolaches! Hugs! ~Serene
ReplyDeleteHi Terri - Kolaches are more breakfast tasting to me. They would be a dispointment to me as a dessert. There's not enough ice cream in Tulsa to change that.
ReplyDeleteAs to pronounciation, just say "vague", then sub "pr" for the "v". If I ever go back to the Czech Republic, I will have to relearn the old way.
Hey Shelley - honestly, you didn't miss much. I preferred the Porter Peach Festival. If your friend was a Czech Queen, she must have been stunning, since the world's most beautiful women are the Czech. Love the Czech joke, but my standards for laughs are low.
ReplyDeleteHi Debbi - How's the knee these days? Hope it's better. I didn't know your husband isn't retired yet. Neither is mine. A lot of my traveling is going along on his business trips. But of course, the Kolache Festival wasn't business.
ReplyDeleteHey Serene - It was a hoot! Got any more new stuff on Ebay?
ReplyDeleteInteresting pronunciation of the town of Prague. Are Kolaches a German thing? I should know, as my husband is German. Maybe they're Polish. I used to eat them a lot in Wisconsin.
ReplyDeleteHi Sanda - Just noticed your comment - sorry for not answering sooner. Kolaches are Czech - just like my father who grew up in Wisconsin. Didn't know you'd ever lived there. What I remember about Wisconsin was the cheese, saurekraut, and sausages. I really wished I liked beer, since it just seemed like the best drink with those foods. But I stuck with Pepsi. Which also meant I was the one who got to drive.
