Sanity Reigns!

I like TV - but anyone who knows me knows that I don't watch Reality TV.  I don't know who the American Idol is or how they pick them, I don't know the first thing about Survivor except for a social evening with friends that degenerated when the host brought out his Survivor audition tape and played it numerous times.  And that Jersey Shore - Fugeddaboutit!  How about those West Coast favorites? - I know they have glossy black hair and the oldest one preys on young basketball players, but that's enough information for anyone on the Kardashians.  (Whose names, amusingly, Autocorrect wants to make "Guardianships".)  But my point, and I do have one, is that just recently the city of Los Angeles refused to let Kim Kardashian have a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  Finally some sanity!  Yeah!

  2. Hi Serene - Can you believe she had the gall to even ask? (Sidewalk stars on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood are paid for privately - sometimes by the stars, themselves - but have to be approved or they don't get one.)

  3. I don't watch Any reality TV either! So pleased to meet another like-minded soul. I particularly don't like the shows which send somebody off in tears each episode - that was regarded as cruelty in the playground where I grew up!

  4. I can't cope with so called 'reality' TV. My few brushes with it cause me to worry about the future of the world. "Famous for being famous" seems are dangerous idea to let loose amongst those too young (or too foolish) to discern the lack of substance behind it. A Hollywood star? Surely the whole story is a gimick to get more press...no one could possibly think that a serious proposition.

I'm looking forward to the return of Downton Abbey on the 16th...good old-fashioned escapism!

  5. My sentiments exactly! I know nothing about the programs; you are doing better than I am as I can't even name them. Downton Abbey is my kind of TV, and interested to see Shelley mentions it returning to TV on the 16th; is that in the U.S.? Unfortunately I missed most of the episodes of the first season. I may have to buy the DVDs

  6. Hi Patricia - How insightful - likening it to playground behavior. It really makes you appreciate professional acting.

  7. Hi Shelley - I can hardly wait to see how Shirley MacLaine is worked into the 3rd season. I wonder how long it will take before we get it in the US?
It's hard to believe that the same country that brings us Downton Abbey invented Reality TV. One of my friends came back from England hooked on Trading Spaces, etc. and couldn't believe the US didn't have such things. That was less than 20 years ago. How things have changed!

  8. Hi Sanda - I get Downton Abbey from Netflix, but it would be fun to own it. Like Jeeves and Wooster, or Cold Comfort Farm, some programs I just want to be able to grab and watch right away. And the old Perry Masons's - I love that old TV show.
