New Bug In Town

This strange bug was underground in one of the raised beds at the Community Center.  (Not mine!)  I took these pictures over a 3 hour period.  It was still on the table let when we went in to lunch, but eventually flew off.

  2. Oh my! That is a strange bug! Any idea what it is. I see what you mean about the bugs in Oklahoma. I've never seen anything like it. Love your bug pictures!

  3. I have gardened here in Britain and coped with slimy snail and slugs. I grew enormous tomatoes in SLC - hardly any bugs here. The first and only time I ever tried gardening in OKC - where I've lived most of my life - I ran into so many crawly things I just gave up. Too creepy. I'm well impressed with your community garden!

  4. Serene - I love how Faux Fushia, an Austrailian Blogger warns her readers to "Look Away" right before a picture that might not be pleasant for them -ie: Before a picture of a beautiful ham, she will say, "Vegetarians, Look Away!" I still haven't figured out how to put my writing where it should be, so I gave up trying to warn non bug people.

  5. Sanda - I have no idea what the bug was, but it ended up looking a lot like a huge moth. Didn't find anyone else who recognized it. One man suggested that for fun, I capture it and take it to a bug guy for identification. I could see nothing fun about having that thing in the car with me. It was funny that we were both doing garden pictures at the same time.

  6. Shelley - Slugs can do so much damage to a garden. They were a major pest in Seattle. I'll bet OKC has the same bugs as Tulsa. What is amazing is how big they are! Some of the rodents in Seattle are smaller than those bugs.

  7. I'll bet this bug had to wait for his wings to unwrinkle. I'll never forget coming across a butterfly fresh out of its chrysalis...and I watched in wonder.

  8. You know Terri, that's what I thought, so I'm glad you actually saw that happen. Where were you? Like Kansas or Montana, I mean.
