How Do I Love Halloween - Let Me Count The Ways. First, The Are The Costumes

Manos, Hands of Fate is a totally terrible movie.  Supposedly made to prove that it didn't take that much money to make a horror film - I think?  But even cheesier than the dialogue, were the costumes.  This is a copy of the one worn by "The Master" - and yes, those are actually big red hands decorating the front.  My son, Zach, wanted to dress up as the character for Halloween.  Anyone who knows me, knows that I love to sew costumes, and I make really good ones.  It was a little hard to suspend my normal perfectionism, but it was necessary this time for authenticity - since the low budget of the movie extended to the costume construction.  Other than that, it was pretty easy.  Good Times!

  1. My mom was really big on sewing costumes. I had some of the best! I did a few for my step-son that I really enjoyed, but he eventually got a thing about black ninjas and then all he needed was a bunch of black clothes and some face paint. By then he was sort of outgrowing the costume thing. Do you have photos of your costumes to share?

  2. Hope we get to see a post-Halloween pic of this.

I agree with Shelley--I'd love to see a gallery of costumes you've made.

  3. That costume is brilliant, Beryl, and looks like a lot of work. You are one talented seamstress!

  4. Hi Shelley - I bet your mother had as much fun sewing them as you had wearing them. I know it's that way for me. When we moved to Tulsa, my laptop with all those pictures "disappeared". I have tried to find people with copies and if I ever do, I'll put them on the blog.

  5. Hi Terri - My son went shopping for the fake mustache that is part of the character and says he will have a friend take a picture of him in it today. I am pretty excited to see him in it. I'll put it up as soon as I get it.

  6. Hi Patricia - That is quite the compliment coming from someone who sews as well as you. Thanks!
