Tim Tam Cookies

Anyone who knows me knows that I regret ever having that first Krispy Creme Donut. Now the sight of a lit-up Fresh Hot sign at the Krispy Creme store causes my car to veer into the parking lot  and run into the store. But while the only logical way to buy donuts is in a dozen, these Australian wonders, the Tim Tam Cookie, come in a much more reasonable one serving size - of course that one serving has about 60,000 calories.  And yes, that is an empty bag!

Early Birthday Present

Amanda sent me these just in time to tuck in my suitcase for Australia. Yeah!

Eggplants, Nanoblocks, and Sherlock Holmes

Anyone who knows me knows that I love a good puzzle. That's the reason I enjoy the various Sherlock Holmes Societies. (Of course whipping up the Victorian costumes is my favorite part.). It's also probably why I could not resist this tiny building set.

Here are some of the beautiful eggplants that I left behind in my Tulsa garden that my friends will enjoy while I am on my surprise visit to Australia. I know when anyone says they are having a surprise visit, it seems as if they are surprising someone else, not ones self. But in college, I had a good friend named TJ who showed up at my door the Saturday before his birthday with a huge group and when I opened the door, he yelled "Surprise - you're giving me a party tonight!"  And I was surprised. Although I shouldn't have been - I had the reputation for giving the best parties. And for making cake at the drop of a hat.

Great Picture And New Classification For Vegetables

This is my sister Lynne's family.  How cool to have them all together in this sweet, sweet picture!  The first adult on the left is Lynne, holding her newest grandchild.  And the sixth adult from the left is our mother, who has gone down 3 or 4 sizes since turning 90.  All it took getting the right personal trainer, Will, who by all reports is gorgeous. Although I never got a glimpse of him, even though when I was in Sacramento, we stopped by the health club a couple times.  But I have my sources and I have total faith in them.
Lynne has such beautiful kids - every one of them could make a living modeling.  (By the time they turned 11, they were all taller than I am!)  (Although the youngest makes a point to crouch down and make himself look shorter, cause he knows how much I liked it when I was taller than at least one of them - and it just cracks me up!)
On an entirely different subject, as I was eating that deliciously sweet corn on the cob last night, I realized that we needed a new classification for those vegetables that are so sweet, they can't possibly be in the same group as Brussel Sprouts and Kale.  I mean, really, there are carrots that are sweeter than most pears.  And who thinks Granny Smith apples should be considered a fruit?  Even the worst ear of corn is sweeter.  My point, and I do have one, is that I propose we take carrots, sweet potatoes and yams, corn, and all winter squash, especially Butternut - put them in their own group.  Desserts masquerading as side dishes.  Maybe you should add that Green Beans with equal amounts of Bacon and a sprinkle of toasted Almonds to this list - I could eat that for dessert any time.  And White Cheddar Garlic Mashed Potatoes.  The list goes on.......

Happy Fourth Of July - Oh, And Before I Forget, The Movie The Lone Ranger Is Unbelievably Bad Until The Last 25 Minutes

Happy Fourth of July!  In the time honored tradition of Independence Day cooking, tonight's meal was Grilled Hot Dogs and Corn on the Cob. But, as anyone who knows me knows, I gave it as healthy a twist as possible. Those Hot Dogs were Zero-Fat Chicken Bratwurst. And the corn was so fresh it didn't need any butter or salt. And instead of a bowl of chips, I had a bowl of Salad.
Good Times!

One Of The Nice Things About Visiting My Family In Sacramento Is Everyone Feeding Me

Two days, two great lunches in Sacramento. First Chandos Tacos with my sister Claire and her husband John. He drives and we both pester him - she also won in the husband lottery. He's a great guy!  Thanks for the great lunch!

Claire is saying "You're welcome!"
Today Nick and Kelsey took me to Krush Burger with their mini-burgers and Sweet Potato Tater Tots!  So Good!

If Your Hair Is Curly - Try This Stuff

My son's wonderful girlfriend Kelsey got me this stuff for keeping my curly hair from sticking out and frizzily flying everywhere. And not only does it do that, it doesn't turn my hair into a stiff, scratchy helmet.  Now I can stop taking the Nexxus stuff that my daughter likes. It says it's for split ends, but it was almost as good for curls as the Aveda. Thank you, Kelsey!
