I got back to Southern California yesterday and have been drifting in and out of sleep for the whole day. My only task was to take the Granddogs to the vet for their yearly check-up this afternoon. They are perfectly healthy. Yeah! The only surprise was how difficult it was to change back to driving on the right hand side of the road. Anyone who knows me knows that I am left-handed - one of the around 7% or so of the population. And for me the driving on the left was more natural. It just makes sense to have your non-dominate hand responsible for the simplest of all the controls, the turn signal. You have left or right and no other possibilities. Unlike the the wand on the other side that has windshield wipers, with varying speeds and setting, including cleaning, and lights. This is where the dominant hand should be used. And for 93% of Americans, it is.
On an alternate train of thought, I Will Never Take Good Internet In The Hotel For Granted Again! When we were in Sydney, we stayed at the Oaks Goldbrough in Darling Harbour. Great location, but Internet was $90 per week per device - and it worked very sporadically, and then only in the bathroom. (They said they were refunding the money, so you know how bad it must have been.) John needed it for business, but I had plenty of Sydney sightseeing and pastry eating to do, so I didn't use it. The other option was to stand in line at the Starbucks for 45 minutes and buy tea, which gave you half an hour of Internet. Which took 10 minutes to log into. Barely enough time to check family emails, checking on my sister-in-law Marya's complicated (but thankfully successful) surgery. So all is good in my world!
Hope the jet-lag doesn't last too long, Beryl. Sleep it off, that is my secret too.
ReplyDeleteYour internet experience was appalling - apologies on behalf of Australia for that! If it was us, we would complain as well and I am glad they are giving a refund, as they certainly should. Internet cafes are no fun, that is for sure. Glad the dogs are good :)
Happy to see you posting. What a mess about the internet. My Mom is a "lefty" so I know a little about the challenges. She traveled a lot but don't think she ever drove on the left side - Dad did all of that. Hope you get rested up over the weekend.

Welcome back Beryl. Have missed you. Agree with Simone: tell us about your trip. Hope you had a great time.
ReplyDeleteI am loving the title of your post - I had a few moments (or weeks ) like that this summer! isn't it annoying about the charging, London is the worst - and has the worst reception too. You really feel like your words are gold when you're paying that much!
ReplyDeleteI know just what you mean about forgetting how to do this thing called blogging... And yes, lousy internet connection isn't worth the bother. Currently at a spill-over caravan site with free wifi! I suspect Bill will get a shed load of spam for handing over his email address though...
ReplyDeleteGlad to see a new post from you Beryl & I'm looking forward to hearing more about the trip.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back, globetrotter. I live with a leftie and he complains about the design of so many things, to include power tools, etc.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back Beryl!! Can not wait to hear all about Australia.
ReplyDeleteHi Beryl - Just stopped by to visit your blog list... Hope you are well and you had a good time in Australia.
