Now That I'm Living In Oklahoma, I'm Learning New Things. Like - What Can't You Buy At Walmart?

If you look very carefully you can see my husband, John peeking out through the cornstalks that our local Walmart has for Halloween decorating.  And there are bales of hay, too.  Anyone who knows me, knows that there is no way I could get my husband shopping at Walmart and will think this picture is photoshopped.  Well, surprise - it's not!  This is the benefit of renting, instead of owning - there were no outstanding repairs or yard work nagging, to be used as an excuse to stay home.  But there is also no yard to put hay bales and cornstalks out in.  Trade-off!

  1. Me being me, I'd be wondering what use I could find for a staw bale after it was used to decorate for Halloween...mulch maybe? Just because you can buy loads of stuff at Wal*Mart, doesn't mean you should...

I've just returned from our local supermarket where they have changed EVERYTHING around with NO logic whatsoever about how things are arranged. Apparently it is the "Supermarket of the Future" because they have expanded the fresh foods section. The irony is that I buy my fresh foods at the green market, not there... The Supermarket of my Future is likely to be a different one. I've never seen so many lost and confused people in my life.

  2. Meryl Streep is filming a movie in Bartlesvilles, OK. You should drive up there and find her and get a picture together! Then you'll be able to show people that you're not the same person. Also, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Juliette Lewis are there, too.

  3. Hi Shelley - Pretty funny! Lost and confused people - been there. Right, just because you can buy it, doesn't mean you should! - I love you trying to think of something to do with that haybale later. I have watched stores that decide how we should shop, make us all want to shop elsewhere. Like the US chain fabric stores, for example.

  4. Hi Honey! (MrDLister is my daughter and has seen these silly people who don't realize that Meryl is thinner and has perfect skin.)
You're right, I should go get a picture! Bartlesville is about an hour away and it's an easy drive. Someone suggested misbehaving and letting everyone think badly of Meryl Streep, but you know I won't do that!

  5. I used to like Walmart OK, but not since they redesigned their stores a few years ago. The problem also these days is they don't stock the choices they once did, and are often sold out of items that should be there. Yuk, hate it now.

  6. Hi Sanda - When I lived in Seattle, it took an hour to get to a Walmart and I never bothered. I was very surprised when my husband asked me to come alone on this trip to Walmart. If I shopped for recreation, I would go there more often, but I would rather shop with something specific in mind, and I agree with you that Walmart just can't be counted on to have what you want. I have better luck when I need a new pair of pajama bottoms going to my local Goodwill.

  7. We have a Walmart market about a 1/2 mile from our house. It doesn't have as much as the big Walmart's, but it is handy. We shop at Walmart regularly because it is cheaper for many groceries.

  8. Hi Debbi - I agree - the groceries are much cheaper at Walmart, and when it a national brand, why would you pay more for them?
