They Make The Best Iced Tea Here, But It's Winter! And I'm Already Iced

I've been in Tulsa for over a year, and there are still surprises.  This is of the Tea variety - it is under 40 degrees (wouldn't that be around 5 degrees Celsius?)and we ordered tea to go with our desert - and two glasses of Iced Tea were brought to the table.  And when we were leaving, the server asked if we would like our tea in a to go cup - like a doggie bag for our drinks.  Really nice idea, but not something the would ever happen on the West Coast.
PS: It has been a long, hard week, but I think John and I have finally gotten that Spider problem under control.

  1. Yes, I recall that one has to ask for 'hot tea' or it is assumed you mean cold. There is a season for everything...

  2. I know a few Southern women who were confused when in England and didn't get a glass of sweet iced tea when they ordered tea. Good Times!

  3. Heh-heh! Those Mid-westerners get their tea habits from the South! Yes, hot tea is not that popular here, and most folks think I'm "exotic" (or odd)because I drink it.(Of course, I love my iced tea as well, but unsweetened, thank you very much; this is another way I'm considered odd because practically EVERYONE drinks iced tea with sugar or artificial sweeneter. Ugh).

When I was in England I didn't even bother to asked for iced tea; the biggest adjustment was asking for a carbonated drink and it being at room temperature. If you asked for a glass with ice, you received one or two cubes! I was with a group tour and the hotel management, knowing the habits of those odd American tourists, placed a large chest of ice in the corridor for our convenience and ice fix! Nice people!

  4. Iced tea in the winter? Brrrr. Of course I've heard of doggie bags but never been asked if I wanted a go-cup for my drink.

I'm a coffee drinker, they usually serve that hot :-).

  5. My husband always has iced tea with his meals when we eat out. I used to order hot tea, but they usually give you some nasty tasting tea in a bag and I like milder teas and must have cream in it. Weird I know.
I don't like sweet tea either. Even ice tea can be bitter if it is not well made. I think that is why I always order ice water, that way I am not disappointed!

  6. Hi Sanda - I forgot about the room temp soda in England. I asked for a Root Beer in the Sherlock Holmes Pub and was served a Murphy's Stout - what a surprise! The barkeeper said it was like a beer and he was pretty such it was made from roots, Luv. And it was warm, of course.
I know what you mean about Iced Tea habits - some places you have to specify "unsweetened" or they will bring you already sweetened tea.

  7. Hi Darla - I am learning that there is a whole lot of America in the middle and the things I took for granted on the West Coast, aren't universal. I love the "to-go cup" tradition.

  8. Hi Debbi - I know just what you mean about the ice wrecking the ice tea. I agree about liking tea a little mild. I hate it when it gets even the slightest bit bitter. With all the excellent tea available to restaurants today, I am disappointed way too often. I finally figured out to ask to see the tea bag assortment before I decide on hot tea.
