Farming Success!

These are beet greens I grew myself. John juices every morning that he is home and I figured I would try to grow our own spinach for the carrot, ginger, ape, greens stuff concoction he squeezes in this beautiful machine. Someone gave me some expired beet seeds and I just threw them in the plot and stirred the into the dirt. Like I was making cookies or something. And magically these came up. Good Times!

  1. We love our beet greens here, too! I try to love beets, because they are so good for me, but so far it's just one of those things I eat because I should. Roasted beets are probably the best, I think. We're planting parsley again this year (it was a three year crop for next to no effort), also spinach and lettuces for summer and kale for over the winter. All dead easy, in this climate anyhow. I'll have to try a 'green shake' sometime. Mind, we eat tons of veggies anyhow, so I'm not sure of the extra benefit.

  2. I might be one of the only beet fans around. I really like beets and we cook the greens too. DH did the juice thing for awhile, not the juicer takes up space in the cupboard. Maybe he will get it out as our garden comes in.

  3. Nom! We are BIG greens eaters at our house. The early greens are especially lovely with tiny little beets!

  4. Your beets look great, Beryl. They are plentiful now and I have wanted to try beet chips. Nothing better than a good glass of juice in the morning. My juicer is the same as yours and I marvel at how good veggies taste....who would have thought??

I am so sorry to hear about the devastation in the state and hope you and your family are safe. My prayers go out to all.

  5. I love beets but have never eaten the greens. I've never grown them either but yours look great. I have a bumper crop of lettuces this spring and great looking onions, garlic, chives, parsley and shallots. I also have planted two tomato plants, two zucchini, one eggplant and butternut squash. That's about all the vegetable gardening I can handle this year. That looks like a very nice juicer, something I've never owned.

  6. Well grown Beryl. I like beets and eat them most days, but have not tried the greens. That juicer really looks the business, something I need to purchase as mine is old and weak. You have just reminded me to go have my daily carrot juice!
