Vegemite - On Toast With Butter - A Much More Logical Accompaniment With Morning Eggs Than Jam

Just when you forget that you're in a foreign (to me, at least), country, something so unusual comes along that it snaps you back to reality.  That something was Vegemite, a spread I tried on my toast just recently.  This stuff is delicious!  But first let me put this in perspective.  You know how delicious Ice Cream is, and how delicious Caesar Salad is?  Well Vegemite is to Jam what Caesar Salad is to Ice Cream.  It's maybe a little saltier than I would choose, but I haven't tried it with unsalted butter yet.

  1. I've always wanted to try vegemite. I love salty foods.

  2. HaHa; well said! I bought a jar of Vegemite a few years ago. I understand it is to people in Australia what peanut butter is to Americans.

  3. Vegemite must be used very thinly scraped, even for Australians! My daughter recently had an Australian-themed party for her friends in Ottawa. She served vegemite sandwiches as a taste treat, which we thought was hilarious!

  4. Oh, you are brave! Much as I love salty flavours, I've never dared try this. It doesn't smell right to me somehow.

  5. it is - because savoury goes so much better in the morning than sweetness - doesn't it. Love vegemite, always makes me feel so full and hearty. Now you have to try the other Kiwi breakfast staple, Weetabix, you can get them at Trader Jos. (except in NZ I don't like it so much as it is not as sweet)

  6. Heard of it but never tried it, have a feeling I wouldn't like it though. Don't know if we have it in the U.K.
