Origami Royal Corgis And Japanese Bookstores

My son Zach started doing Origami when he was eight and quickly became an expert.  By the time he was ten, we were seeking out more difficult designs which meant that they were written in Japanese.  So we would spend hours in the Kinokuniya Book Store in the International District of Seattle.  (There is a huge one in Sydney, by the bye.)  That's where I started getting the Japanese Sewing magazines like Stylebook and Ladies Boutique and Sewing books like Pattern Magic, and the Nanoblocks - like a very tiny version of Legos.  And interesting pencils, wonderful pens, and miniature colored pencils for sketching.  Plus eraser in every shape imaginable, from Sushi to Hello Kitty.  Never use a boring eraser again.
Still too lazy to look up the type of Corgi that Queen Elizabeth of England has, but Zach made a paper replica.
John finally comes home from Australia next Tuesday!  And we're spending Thanksgiving at my son Nick's new house.  I can hardly wait!

    1. Hi Patricia - No Origami for me, but Zach will fold me anything I want. I hope John brings me back Australian Afternoon Tea and Caramel Tim Tams. This was to be his last trip, but it looks like we are spending February there after all. Don't know what city yet, but if it's Sydney (very, very unlikely) I plan on having Flour and Rose's Lamingtons everyday. And we could get together and fabric shop.

  2. Origami is rather fascinating to me. Thanksgiving away from home would be a good thing. No cooking and you get to eat all those sumptous dishes. I am cooking ahead and freezing so I don't have it all to do on the big day. Made southern cornbread dressing this morning. Makes the house smell so good!

    1. Hi Sanda - I love Cornbread Stuffing - I put sausage and pecans in mine. Don't know if that makes it more Southern, but I agree about how wonderful the house smells. Do you have your family there on Thanksgiving?

    2. Son Patrick and his wife Jennifer will be here with darling Katie the new grandbaby. Mother will join us if she's feeling up to it. Daughter Melissa won't be here from michigan. So it will be a small number.

    3. New granddaughter should make it lots of fun, even if it's small.

  3. We just did origami Christmas stockings to put on the front of Christmas cards. I'm not very good at it, but I can certainly see the appeal. It really does look like a Corgi (didn't know there was more than one kind). I love Sydney, but if you get a chance to see Melbourne it is also excellent! See my blog for ideas of things to see... And Imogen from Inside Out Style is there...If it's Perth you could say hi to Carolyn...My toes are so cold just now, I'm quite envious thinking of you in Australia in February...

    1. Hi Shelley - I hope you're putting a picture of those stocking on the blog. I would love to see them. Sorry you're so cold - and it's not a dry cold either, is it? It is exciting not knowing where we are headed. The one advantage to Sydney is that we get off the plane and we're there (after 15 hours). If it's Perth again, it's another 5 hours, but I already know my way around Perth and like it there.
