What Is It About Christmas That Gives Me An Excuse To Eat Anything?

Have you ever seen Peppermint Marshmallow?  Neither had I, but couldn't resist them,  Plus the festive picture on the box of Peppermint Hot Chocolate with the Peppermint Bark just screamed Christmas.  I mean, is it even legal to have Peppermint Bark any other time of year?  It's one of my favorite things to make to send to my family.  But you need a tender Candy Cane, not one of those rock hard ones that Santa hands out when you sit on his lap to have your picture taken.

  1. Oh Beryl what on earth is peppermint bark? I'm not a fan of mint at all but over the Christmas fortnight I seem to eat my own weight in goodies!

    1. Hi Jay - Peppermint Bark is the candy pictured on the Hot Chocolate box. First you melt semi-sweet chocolate and spread it out to about 1/4 inch thick and let it harden. Then you melt white chocolate (real white chocolate, not the artificial stuff) and spread it on top. Before that cools, you sprinkle crushed candy canes on the top, When it is totally hard, you break it into pieces.
      What are your favorite goodies?

  2. My goodies are generally the savoury kind - preferably with lots of fat and salt... Can't say I love peppermint, though I did used to have the occasional hard candy, well, part of one.

    1. Hi Shelley - I make my Chex Mix with Olive Oil, so it has fat, but the best type. This is great to send to vegan relatives, too.
I love a good fruit cake, but no one serves them anymore - too many comedy bits about how there is only one fruit cake in the US and every Christmas they get it out and send it to someone else, because no one ever eats it. This joke is so old, it predates the term "regifting", which would have made it a much shorted joke. Although still not a funny one!

  3. The only time I really like peppermint flavor is at Christmas, peppermint bark being the best way to have it. I'll take some Chex Mix as well.

  4. Hi Darla - I make my Chex Mix with olive oil in the belief it will become a healthy snack. I have to get off-brand check shaped cereal from the health food store so I can get it without BHT preservative - which makes me crazy.
