My son Nick and his fiancée Kelsey in their engagement picture!
Two or three weeks ago my son Nick called and said that the perfect spot for their wedding had just had a cancellation for the end of July and was my schedule clear for that date. It was the weekend of ComicCon, an event I have attended for years and totally enjoy, but of course I said I was free. My son Zach, who goes to ComicCon with me every year, said "Naturally that other couple rescheduled their wedding - they must have gotten tickets to ComicCon!" But all silliness aside, we are now on track for an end of July wedding and very excited. The place must be very small, since we are only having immediate family. Actually I don't mean "immediate family", since my immediate family is about 70 people, so I must mean "nuclear family", just John and me and Zach and Amanda. (Mike, Amanda's husband - whose birthday is today - Happy Birthday, Mike, - has his final geology fieldwork this Summer and will not be able to come.) My husband's "immediate family" is one (him), unless you count me and our children, which I had already included in my count. At any rate, the important thing is that ever since they announced that their wedding was scheduled for Summer 2015, at the earliest, I have been trying to grow taller, since losing weight for a special event is about as realistic as changing eye color. Well, when my doctor measured my height Thursday, I had not even gained a fourth of an inch! Rats! But I did get a prescription for RetinA, which won't make me look better in a dress, but could work other magic. Good Times!
Woo hoo, what a gorgeous girl who will be the most beautiful and stunning bride! Well done, Nick. You are so funny about the ComicCon, and well done for not saying a thing and just 'being available'. We all do that for our adult kids, don't we? When our little grandson Aussie announces a visit, we say, Great, Nothing happening here (and then go and cancel all previous plans). Rats indeed about growing taller - I"m sure it will happen by July, what with all the excitement and running about involved. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHi Patricia - Kelsey will be such a beautiful bride! I can't wait! Her mother is equally gorgeous and so wonderfully tall. (And a lovely person to boot.) This will be much more fun than some silly media convention.
DeleteThis is such a beautiful, beautiful photo! Please send my congratulations and clapping-filled happiness to Nick and Kelsey. A small wedding is so lovely, although clearly nothing can be lovelier than Kelsey herself. She's even more beautiful—and I didn't think that possible—and she glows, glows, glows. Perfection.
ReplyDeleteFunny you mention the RetinA . . . just this morning I was reflecting on the super pale women I know (you being the most, most fair) and thinking how translucent and stunning your skin is. With RetinA, you will put us all quickly in the shadows.
Hi Catherine - There are going to be some beautiful wedding pictures! I'm so excited. I remember all the pain you went through with your laser skin procedure, but the results were terrific - you have a beautiful complexion. I laughed when the Dermatologist said I should use a sunblock with the RetinA. And then she laughed back saying she could tell that I have spent most of my life wearing sunblock.
DeleteOh this is SO funny; thanks for making me smile, I needed that ! A long and happy life together to the beautiful couple and good luck in your growing enterprise (though believe me, being tall doesn't make you happier and doesn't fool people on your weight either !). You'll look perfect in the wedding photos, I'm sure. XX
ReplyDeleteHi SB - I was just reading what a terrible week you'd had, so I'm glad you are smiling now. I was about to leave what I think is a very funny story on your blog to cheer you up, but realized without knowing my husband it might not be that amusing to everyone else. OK, here it is - I took my husband to the airport this morning. I think he's going to Boston, but I know he was flying American Airlines. He always books an aisle seat and there was a woman with a baby in the middle seat who asked him to change seats with her friend so her friend could sit next to her since she was planning on nursing the baby and knew that would disturb him. (As if!) He said he would change but only if he didn't end up in a middle seat. (Her friend's seat was a middle seat.) She got really mad at him for not giving up his aisle seat. (Probably a couple of employees flying free on passes since she got up and changed to a different seat.) Silly woman - John would just be sleeping the whole trip anyway.
DeleteWhat a beautiful photo, they are obviously a beautiful couple! And how exciting to have a family wedding so soon, can't wait to see some photos. Good luck for all the planning.
ReplyDeleteHi Jay - Weddings are so exciting! Love your vacation stories, by the bye. And your son's food pictures. Good Times!
DeleteHope you'll be able to enjoy the wedding in spite of feeling short. Actually I think you should take up Pilates...I definitely feel an inch or so taller of late! Small weddings are best - the big ones just look like showing off.
ReplyDeleteHi Shelley - Pilates? That's genius! Thanks for the suggestion.
Deletecongratulations !
ReplyDeleteLovely couple. I think your son looks like you. Don't worry about your height! As they say, embrace it! Short people are cute. And you can always wear 5-inch heels.
ReplyDeleteHi Sanda - Doesn't Heidi Klum wear 6-inch heels? Still, I think 3-inch heels is my limit. My sons looks a little like me and a lot like his dad.
DeleteExciting times. Handsome couple, the wedding pictures are going to be beautiful. Can't wait to see them.
ReplyDeleteDarla
