I Almost Named This "Adult Presents", But A Quick Google Search Shows The Error In My Thinking - So "Enjoy My Vintage Necklace" Should Be Safer

This is the view off my back porch - pretty neat,  The house is quite far away, and I'm lucky they are so lavish in their decorating.
Anyone who knows my son Zach knows that one of his hobbies is Origami, so when I saw this fabric, I had to get it for Pajamas for him.  Actually just the bottoms, since like almost every man I know, he wears a T-Shirt to sleep in.  I love it when I find a good print for my sons, but it's a little harder to find things for Nick.  He wore his Basketball Print ones inside-out, since the print was too bright, but how could I resist a Basketball Print for a Basketball player?  Pretty sure I'll just get him new baking sheets for Christmas and skip making him a pair.  He uses those Air-Bake ones (hollow inside) to cook turkey bacon so perfectly that you don't taste the difference.  And his are getting a little old.    My Point, and I do have one  is that adults are pretty hard to find good presents for.  And I am just so excited to come up with some!
Isn't this the best old necklace - notice the missing rhinestone?
Hard to see where the flaw is when I wear it, so I put my hair up to make it more noticeable.  Still no reason to throw this in the trash bin, which is where it was headed when I rescued it.  Bet this is almost 50 years old.  Pre-Internet days, I thought I was part of a tiny group of people who enjoyed old costume jewelry - now I know better.  Unfortunately, so does everyone else, so these old treasures that people would give to me don't show up as often.

  1. That necklace must be at least 50 years old or more! It fits so perfectly into the neck of your sweater. I like old costume jewelry but can't ever find a good time to wear it. Remember Sarah Coventry jewelry parties? I attended a few of them in the 1970s and still have some of the pieces.

    1. Hi Sanda - Bet you're right. How cool that it might be even older than I thought. That Sarah Coventry jewelry was terrific stuff. I know everyone doesn't agree, but I have always loved parties where they try to sell me stuff. I don't think anyone even has Tupperware parties anymore.

  2. That necklace is gorgeous Beryl, and I would have snapped it up too. Yes, I am another who loves a bit of old costume jewellery; in fact spent several hours this morning with my sewing friends in the Antique Centre, where we checked over a vast array of it. And loved it all! I remember Sarah Coventry too, whatever happened to her? Got your own little fairyland outside the back door this Christmas - how cool is that :-))

    1. Hi Patricia - Sounds like such a fun morning - shopping Vintage with friends. Maybe that's why I like those home-parties so much.

  3. What a great necklace. I have quite a pile of old costume jewelry, mostly handed down or on from female relatives. I should get it out and wear it more often.

The origami fabric is really amazing and unusual. I've only puttered with origami but I love all things paper so the fabric appeals to me. Can you show us some of your son's origami pieces?

    1. Hi Darla - Glad you relatives knew to get that jewelry to you. So sad to see great vintage stuff thrown in a grandchild's toy box to get destroyed. I haven't taken a lot of pictures of his origami, but when we go out to California for Christmas, I'll get a bunch and put them up for you.

    1. Hi Bunny - All it needs is matching earrings, but I wear pierced and that era only produced hopelessly uncomfortable clip-on ones,

  5. Lovely necklace! I love the few bits that I have that belonged to each of my grandmothers. The brooches don't have terribly reliable clasps, though, so I don't wear them very often. Great idea, those PJ bottoms from novelty fabrics! Yes, good grown up gifts are hard to find (and don't those people on the internet have dirty minds?)

    1. Hi Shelley - Did you ever try to use one of those plastic plugs that they use to keep post earrings on a card on the end of the pin? (I keep trying to figure out some use for them.) Since I don't quilt, I have to find other ways to use the incredible fabrics they make for quilts. Sometimes I get one of the coordinating fabrics and put a band around the leg bottom,

    1. Hi Jody - Going for a bit of a Christmassy color theme. The weather in Tulsa right now calls for sweaters, but as in all of Oklahoma, we could be wearing shorts tomorrow. Oddest weather ever - but mostly clear blue skies.

    1. Hi Carolyn - I do love to make stuff for my guys, but am happiest when that stuff gets worn to death. This is the first blog post I have made that has gotten sp*m comments - could be the topic.
