How Shallow Do They Think We Are?

I think I have just cracked the code!  Brad Pitt uses the terms "my fate" and "inevitable" in this Chanel No 5 ad, but I think the subtext is all about his affair with Angelina Jolie - as in it was "inevitable" because she was "his fate".  I think to the French, this affair is not the sordid, why does she only want other women's men, maybe they deserve each other kind of thing.  But a romantic, huge gesture, love affaire of the century between two "beautiful people".  And that would be why they think these commercial should work for us.

  1. Beryl, I can't tell you how much I HATE that commercial. It's absurd! I have to believe that Ms. Chanel herself would be appalled by such an inane display disheveled celebrity rambling. I'm embarrassed FOR him! Thanks for posting this!! Hugs! ~Serene

  2. They'll be it, Beryl. You have indeed cracked the code. But they'll never be Liz and Richard Burton - they were a star turn together!

  3. Oh dear, I'm so out of touch I didn't even know about the affair. I confess I don't follow this stuff at all. Still haven't seen the commercial.

  4. Hi Serene - I'm always glad when someone agrees with my rantings. Thanks! Oh, and I saw a picture of you on your blog wearing that cute orange scarf I Ebayed from you. Looked great.

  5. Hi Patricia - Liz and Dick were so bigger than life. Glad you reminded me of them. And yet, Liz and Eddie Fisher were never a great love story, after she took him away from Debbie Reynolds. Just boring.

  6. Hi Darla - Hope you are lucky enough to never see that ad - if you enjoy an Chanel product, that is. If there's nothing tempting to you about any Chanel product, seeing this commercial will only make you feel smug that none of your money was spent on Brad's dumb dialogue.

  7. I don't know Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's past history. Are they now married to each other? I am so out of touch on this stuff. I am glad we have you to keep us up to speed on this stuff! Thanks (do you see the ad on network tv stations?)

  8. Hi Sanda - Angelina Jolie is famous for saying (about her children) that not many people can watch the movie where their parents fell in love. This was in reference to the first movie she and Brad Pitt made together, Mr & Mrs Smith, which was made when Pitt was married to someone else. (Jennifer Aniston, and they were almost newlyweds.) Quite the scandal! This was a question that I answered at the Pub Quiz in Southern California which my son and his friends do every week. No one on the quiz team knew this either, so don't feel left out not knowing all this silly stuff. The only reason they used my (right) answer is because they couldn't think of anything else. Same with "Calliope" for the Circus musical instrument.
