Happy Pi Day (3.14159265359) & A New Necklace To Celebrate

It's March 14th, or as the nerdiest of us say - Happy Pi Day!  (3.14159265359)  Since most of us agree that more than 5 decimal places are wasted, we'll just settle on 3.14159, which means that my son, Zach is going to Marie Callendar and buying a pie to take to work and serve at exactly one minute to 2:00.  Right, in Orthodox Geek Culture, Pi(e) is traditionally served on 3/14 at 1:59.
There is a hole in my jewelry collection - a fairly plain necklace that isn't all that plain. While I do like Target for their designer line jewelry, like these wonderful earrings, (it turns out to be nearly impossible to get a good picture of your own ears, by the bye) I wasn't actually there to buy a necklace tonight at 10 pm. No, I was there to buy toilet paper. (Do the refined among us have a more genteel word for it? Bathroom Tissue doesn't sound any better. That's what it's called on the Charmin package.). And aren't we all sick to death of all the ridiculous ads for the stuff? I know I am.
But for less than $30, this necklace had to be mine. There were some other interesting ones that looked like cheap renditions of the ones worn on Faux Fushia's wonderful Australian blog. But this one was cheap, but didn't look cheap.

  1. Gorgeous jewelery! (I will never learn to spell that word...). Happy Pi Day!

  2. Hi Shelley - I always used to add an extra "m" when I spelled "tomorrow", but Spellcheck finally cured me - now I only write it that way half the time. Do they celebrate Pi Day in England?

  3. Pi day? Gee, I guess I missed it (or most of it)

I never think of Target for jewelry. I'm looking for a pair of small sterling silver hoops - maybe I will try there.

Jewelry is definitely more fun to buy than toilet paper (and no I don't know a better name for it.

  4. It's odd; I left a comment earlier, or at least I thought I did. Anyway, I was complimenting your new necklace and saying I think you did a great job of taking a photo of your ear! Thanks for the explanation of Pi day. When I was still at the office, it was celebrated each year. I had no idea what it was all about, never asked and no one ever told me. Now I know!! Hope YOU had a happy Pi Day! Did you eat pie?

  5. Hi Darla - How curious that small sterling hoops are exactly what I have been looking for a while now, too. But I get too distracted in Target and have not actually looked there. We have a chain called Dillard's in Tulsa that is a great place to look for things like that. (Cheaper than Nordstrom's, but better than Macy's.) I'll look for them there when I go back in April.

  6. Hi Sanda - I did eat Pie today - Banana Cream. I didn't make it, but like the kind made with brown sugar. I think the British call it Banoffee Pie. It was from Marie Callendar, home of the best Strawberry Pie anywhere. But only when it's in season.

  7. Great necklace Beryl, and if I saw it I would probably grab it too! Suspect there is no better name for toilet paper - lavatory paper is no better!
Happy Pi Day to you too :)

  8. Hi Patricia - That necklace also came in a milky iridescent light mint green. It was hard to chose. Even more difficult when the green one had matching earrings and the white one didn't. (Or were already sold out, which often happens at Target.)
Really liked your information on the new Pope. Very interesting.

  10. Hi Jody - Thanks! I guess none of your kids are Geeks, so they didn't alert you. But any excuse for pie!
