Still Searching For The Perfect Snack

I am still searching for a really good pre-dinner snack. Now, don't suggest Pretzels to me - I'm half French, half Czech - and not even the tiniest bit German. And don't get me started on them being the healthiest snack possible. That just means they have no reasonable stopping point. The point when you are entirely satiated. (Satisfied to the point when any extra just detracts from the Pleasure,  At any rate, that's my definition of "satiated"). I think it's that whole no fat thing. But my point, and I did have one when I started writing, was that the addition of beer (humm, maybe the beer is what got me started on my pretzel rant - they do go together perfectly) does nothing for Potato Chips. But then, I've never enjoyed beer.

  1. Oh. I want these. Just a nibble. Or a bowl full. It is taking all reserves to keep myself from heading out to buy chips!

And those food trucks! How come I never knew that such glory existed!

  2. Hi Catherine - Because we're in Oklahoma! Trying the Sricha flavored Lay's Chips tonight.

  3. These things are called crisps over here in Britain and it's a term I still trip over - chips vs crisps. They are both devil's food, mind! I don't keep crisps in the house; they are too irresistible. That definition of satiated must be very French, Beryl. I don't think I'm that fine tuned any more, if I ever was. Must remember to be more mindful when I eat.

  4. I never liked beer either - but hubs love a beer and chips. Chips are the devil's work as far as I am concerned - one taste and stopping is impossible until the last crumb is consumed. Therefore they are banished to His Den for watching football!

  5. I agree with you. Low fat to me means that you never get to the point where you have had enough.

  6. I don't fancy beer in my crisps; cheddar and red onion maybe but no beer!

  7. Hi Shelley - With the amount of walking you do, I imagine you have lots more leeway in your diet than most people. The term "crisp" just doesn't say potato chips to me. Maybe crackling? Or bits of cheese, dry fried until crisp, like the Bacon Cheese concoction from the Food Trucks.

  8. Hi Patricia - I love that I finally found another adult who doesn't like Beer! And Chips do seem wickedly tempting.

  9. Hi Yogi - I loved your Sunday Photographic Scavenger Hunt. It seems to me that Potatoes and some type of fat are always satisfying - or why else would French Fries have become such a staple in most of the world?

  10. Hi Jay - I like Cheese in any of my Chips, (or Vinegar). I wounder if they make a Cheddar and Vinegar flavor chip I'd try that in a heartbeat!

  11. Popcorn from a hot air popper. No butter, no salt. Weird at first but you get used to it. Now I adore it.

  12. Hi Sanda - My husband makes this for us every night in Tulsa, but I never get it quite right. He uses a Cuisinart brand air popper and only the freshest popcorn, usually Orville Reddenbacher from Walmart. (The turnover in a Walmart is so fast, almost nothing gets stale.) And I do miss it when he's travelling. That's when I try out all the chips.
