No Pictures - Just Surprise

As the landscape wizzed by, I missed a few photo of things that were to me very impressive.  The Continental Divide at 7000 feet had a sign that I wish I'd snapped.  A couple of wild horses off in the hills.  An email to my husband from his boss's boss, saying that they want us in Perth, Australia yesterday, but will settle for the middle of July - right after Comic Con in San Diego, but canceling the trip to Hawaii.  Who knew they were serious?  But as of last night, the tickets are purchased and John will pick up our passports when he flies home to make the rest of the arrangements.  It's only for a month, but I'm going to have to find a way to rent a sewing machine and a juicer.  And unseal a few of my vacuum packed sweaters.  Wow!

  1. Wow that is a surprise but such a cool one! You get a break from the hot summer in Tulsa in the winter of S. Hemisphere! Will you be sewing a winter wardrobe? Get busy girl! July is almost here! Very exciting !

    1. Hi Sanda - Two weeks ago I didn't know John's company even had an interest in Australia. I am very excited. I much prefer to sew Summer clothes, but would be lost without a machine for over a month. But I should make a pair of Winter pants, now that you mention it!

  2. Jealous! We've never been to Australia and it is on our list.

Are you going to Comic Con? That is also on my list!

    1. I am still going to Comic Con, but I have been lots of times before. And it is amazing, although I would have skipped it if I had to for the Australia trip. Australia has always been high on my list, but not my husband's. Pretty funny that his job is sending us there, when I had just about given up on ever getting there.

  3. Wow Beryl, you are coming over here, and very soon too! I hope you like Australia - we are quite friendly :)
Maybe you will fly over Brisbane and can wave to me, just like I waved to you when we flew over Tulsa last month!
Looking forward to hearing all about it.

    1. You are such a mind reader - that is exactly the comment I typed as a comment on your blog. But then I realized that until the tickets were actually purchased, I couldn't be totally sure of the trip. I will wave, and also let you know if a side trip to Brisbane gets approved. And John will work while I tour your fabulous museum.

    2. Exciting, Beryl - if you come to Brisbane we must meet up. However as we are on the other side of the continent, maybe it is unlikely you will come to us. When in Perth you must go to the Art Gallery of Western Australia, it is in the City Centre and is very good. Did you know Perth is the most isolated capital city in the world?

    3. Hi Patricia - Most isolated capital in the world? Huh. I did Mapquest Perth to Brisbane and it said there was no available route. I'll let you know if I get there and meet you at the Museum, which sounds fantastic!

  4. I can show you a bit of Perth on my blog - it's in the side bar from when we visited my cousin, Sharon, there. I didn't realize you were a sewing person! I'd love to see some of the stuff you make. Might you get in touch with Carolyn while you are in Perth? It's a gorgeous place and the people are quite nice! Look forward to hearing about your trip!

    1. Hi Shelley - The minute I saw the email about Perth, I went to your blog and read all your Perth entries. Next I plan on finding out if any of the Phryne books take place in Perth. I did leave a comment asking Carolyn if she thought Freemantle would be a fun place to stay for the month. Her blog is one of the first ones I ever read and I found it when it was about a month old - from the PatternReview site. I like that she sews mainly adult clothes and the occassional costume. And she is so witty. As far as my sewing goes, I used to have pictures of the Victorian costumes I'd made for my friend Judy on a laptop that "disappeared" during the move to Tulsa, and now it just never occurs to me to put anything about my sewing on a computer - or even take pictures of it. Which is weird, since I grab my camera any time I see an interesting bug.

  5. Oh Beryl, you are so lucky to get to go to Australia. Please take lots of photos to share with us.

I hope you get back to Wichita sometime so we can meet and have lunch together.

    1. Hi Debbi - How nice to hear from you! Even if we are just driving through, I'll figure out a way to do lunch. And maybe a bit of shopping. Your city is a fabulous place to shop and site see.

    1. Hi Darla - And as an official jet-setter, I wanted to spend tomorrow in Berkeley with my daughter, but she's working, so she took the train to Sacramento where I'm staying with my son. She is dying to meet you and come along on se of your walks. Maybe after Australia?

  7. I've missed so many posts, you have been so busy with all the travelling - how many miles did you drive? I'm going to have a proper read to catch up. And now off to Australia - have fun!

    1. We drove a little over 2000 miles. My husband does all the driving because he enjoys it. How lucky am I?? Don't feel like you need to read those old posts - I feel like I've been a little boring since the big Tornados in Oklahoma. Just now getting back my basic silliness. I think Australia should help with that.
