Eggplants, Nanoblocks, and Sherlock Holmes

Anyone who knows me knows that I love a good puzzle. That's the reason I enjoy the various Sherlock Holmes Societies. (Of course whipping up the Victorian costumes is my favorite part.). It's also probably why I could not resist this tiny building set.

Here are some of the beautiful eggplants that I left behind in my Tulsa garden that my friends will enjoy while I am on my surprise visit to Australia. I know when anyone says they are having a surprise visit, it seems as if they are surprising someone else, not ones self. But in college, I had a good friend named TJ who showed up at my door the Saturday before his birthday with a huge group and when I opened the door, he yelled "Surprise - you're giving me a party tonight!"  And I was surprised. Although I shouldn't have been - I had the reputation for giving the best parties. And for making cake at the drop of a hat.

  1. What will Lego think of next? Surprise visit to Australia? Lucky girl.

    1. Hi Terri - These are from Japan and not by Lego - and they are very, very tiny. Very fun little project. I am excited about Australia, but the surprise part meant that we had to cancel our two weeks in Hawaii (John works, I play), one week in Chicago with our fabulous friends John and Margie (John and John work, Margie and I play), and the unbelievable week my husband scheduled as actual vacation (when we both would just play). (Which I didn't actually expect was going to happen.) And my friend Marilyn is getting to enjoy all my yellow tomatoes and beautiful eggplant (which she sweetly texted me while she was eating and told me how great they tasted - now that's a true friend!)

  2. Wish you were my neighbor, I love eggplant and would be happy to water your garden in return for a few.

    1. Hi Darla - It would be nice to share eggplant with someone who enjoys it. And if we were neighbors, we could walk the neighborhood looking for new and amazing front yards and tea shops.

  3. Haha, that Eiffel tower is amazing. My boys still play lego occasionally! Re; your suggestion to "pound" the seam... did you know that the term used in dressmaking circles is actually "spanking" the seam?! Yes, really!

    1. I love that your boys still do the occasionally build with the Legos. My son, Zach is a demon at Origami, and folds me the most amazing animals. Love the term "spanking the seam"!

  4. What a cute building set but it will require nimble fingers to assemble it. Your eggplants are quite lovely. Love the pink color. My eggplant is not doing great; only one fruit so far. Time to get out the fertilizer.

    1. Hi Sanda - These were not fertilized at all - they just grew so easily this year. I have dark purple ones too. And by the time I get back from Australia, they might be all done growing. But my friends are enjoying them, even though some of them have never cooked Eggplant before.

  5. Enjoy Australia, I'd water the eggplant if I were closer - I love them but don't think they'd grow here!

    1. Hi Jay - I'm not surprised that eggplant doesn't grow there. I never knew anyone who could get them to grow in Seattle, which is a similar climate, I think. Which is a shame, since it's so versatile - you can make so many different types of dishes - from Vegetable Lasagna to Greek dips.
