La Tour Eiffel

La Tour Eiffel and some views from it. I was the only vote for walking up the stairs, so we took the elevator instead. It was very, very cold and windy. There is a nice warm bathroom (toilet, in France) (used to be WC, abreviation for Water Closet) at the top. Never pass up a free bathroom in Paris, especially if you are freezing.

  1. I cried when I saw the Eiffel Tower for the first time. I was surprised that I cried. The sight of it represented something I never thought I would see or do!

    I'm loving following your trip.

  2. Being emotional over a dream fufilled makes perfect sense. The Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Diamond Head, and the Atlantic Ocean have all done me in, as well as any really high bridge I cross or amazing piece of art. I am looking forward to one day having the same reaction to the Grand Canyon and Mt Rushmore. We should make a list!

  3. I cried when I first saw the Thames river, standing on Westminster Bridge across from Big Ben. I remembered all the novels I'd read in my youth set in London and/or Bath (Jane Austen anyone?). I never expected to travel to England and see London for myself. That was before I knew I would take a job and live in England...16 years now. Mind, it was about that long before we ever went to Bath...I didn't cry anymore about places by then. It's a shame, really.

  4. Hey Shelley! Jane Austen and (for me) Sherlock Holmes! The first I went to Bath was with a girlfriend and we toured the Costume Museum and had tea at the Tea Shop at the Baths. It was magical - until a Japanese tourist insisted on buying a glass of the "restorative waters" and the smell overpowered the room. But then he drank it and the smell went away. I was really impressed.

  5. We took the elevator up and the stairs down. Which was not so smart, because it was cold and it started to rain. Fortunately, we did not have a hard time finding the bottle of wine we'd had to hide in the bushes before getting in line, where bottles are not allowed.
