Day Trip To Wichita - Next Time I'm Staying A Few Days So I Can Check Out Some Of These Interesting Sites

Beautiful day for a road trip, so John and I went to Wichita for lunch.  He had a little business to conduct, but that waited until after we ate.  At a place call The Pump House.
Here's John waiting at the door.
I had the Fish and Chips.  I expected French Fries - wouldn't you?  But what I got were these delicious fancy freshly made Potato Chips.
Then I walked around a bit, to see what to come back for on my next trip.
This local Melodrama looks like fun.
Beautiful old hotel.
And anyone who knows me knows that I can't resist outdoor art!
What on earth could be in the Museum of World Treasures??

  1. Wichita looks like an interesting old town. Love that public art, too. And you must promise to tell us what is in the Museum of World Treasures!

  2. Sounds like it might be similar to the British Museum, which cynically I think of housing everything Brits stole from their digging around in the developing world. But I'm not really in to mummies and such... The website says the current exhibit is called 'Economics of Empire', which sounds pretty interesting. I've learned that I like the decorative arts best, then fine art and I tend to give the rest a miss. Wichita's red brick buildings remind me of the Oklahoma City of my youth {sigh}.

    1. How cool that you found their website. I went and added a link, thanks to your inspiration. If you like the decorative arts, there is an amazing museum of them in Paris that you should visit when you're there at the end of the month. I agree about disliking mummys - I would much rather they were left to their rest, then displayed in a museum. I have a friend, Simone, who is a forensic anthropologist, (like the main character in Kathy Reich's books which were the basis for the TV show, Bones), and she told me that there were so many mummys that they were used like coal for fueling for the trains.
Oklahoma City must have been beautiful. Today it seems quite modern, but I haven't seen enough of it yet. I plan on a few weekends there this summer.

    2. My friend loaned me the DVDs for Bones, but it was too gory for me to enjoy...then again, it would cure me of eating in front of the TV! Have added http://www.lesartsdecoratifs.fr/ to the very long list building up...

    3. Bones is too gory for me to sit down and watch the whole thing. I do a lot of walking around and just listening and also hiding my eyes whenever warned. I think you'll love the museum, even if the list is already long. My advice when visiting Paris the first time is to believe the people who say that a certain thing just isn't worth the time. Other than a certain fabric store that closed, everything seems to stay the same in Paris and what you don't do this time, you can do the third or sixth time. My time-saver, when I won't be staying long enough in Paris, is to stay out of most shops - contenting myself with looking in the windows. If I need something, I'll run into the Monoprix and do all my shopping (including food) at once.

  3. It looks like Old Town. Wichita has some great sites. I love Botannica just outside of downtown.

  4. I remember that my grandmother used to fry up batches of potato chips. Loved them. Sounds like an interesting day in Wichita. Have never been there. Love those old brick structures. Glad you found a tea shop!

    1. Hi Sanda - My grandmother used to do that too. She would get out her mandoline slicer and make such thin slices. And since she already had it set up she would slice a few other vegetables for good measure. Paper thin cucumber and onion that she would marinate in vinegar - yum!
