The Vamp Of Savannah?

Remember that song?  It's really all I have ever heard about Savannah other than the famous fact that it was spared the devastation many other Southern cities experienced in our Civil War.  John and I are spending the week here for a work conference.  (He's working, but I am just playing.)
Walking down to the Savannah River from out hotel, we found this Memorial to the WWII casualties from the area.

View from the glass elevator inside the hotel.
Most of the buildings are so beautiful - even this simple one has touches of the wrought iron that decorates almost every one.
This river boat is the one we will cruise on Tuesday night.

  1. So you are in Savannah? Are you getting on one of those ships? It all makes we want to go somewhere.

    1. Hi Darla - This is such a beautiful place. I'm thinking of changing my plan of retiring in San Francisco for the Summer and Portland or Chicago for the Winter - just retiring to Savannah for the whole year. We met quite a few people who have done just that.

  2. I remember going to Savannah Georgia back in the ...late 70s maybe? It's a brilliant place. Loads of history there!

    1. Hi Shelley - You are so right about all the history. Fascinating place. And the food is great too. I would have loved to have visited here in the 70's - not that I think the city would be that much different, but I would be younger and could stay up later and do some of the club thing, too.

  3. Savannah, how exciting, it seems impossibly Romantic to me. That gorgeous riverboat reminds me of the time hubs and I appeared in a local theatre production of Showboat. Still love the music to this day! Enjoy the South :)

  4. Savannah is one of my favorite places to visit. Before you decide to live there year round however you need to be there in summer to experience the oppressive heat and humidity!!! Have you read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil? Classic Savannah. The movie wasn't as good as the book
