I love the Elephant Bar Chain, and was delighted to find one in Kansas.
The picture of John is to show how he was dressed today. Does he look corporate? The staff at Joann's thought so. I was making my purchase of Sundress Patterns (the only rational way to dress in the heat of an Oklahoma Summer) when I realized all the clerks and their managers were in what can only be described as a Tizzy. Why? Because John had come inside to pick me up and they thought they were having an inspection from Joann Corporate. They were so relieved when they realized he was just looking for me.
Cool looking store.
One of the most fun stores for girls, even ones as old as I am.
I bet they were in a tizzy b/c John is so handsome and charming.

Hi Simone - I told John what you said and he just smiled and looked quite pleased.
DeleteHi Beryl, I just wrote a comment and got a note from Blogger - one I've never seen before - telling me the post was being edited or someone else was trying to write a comment at the same time. Weird. ANYWAY, I was saying I don't know Elephant Bar Restaurants, that John must have given the Joanne ladies a scare, and that you are so clever to be sewing sundresses!! If my first comment appeared after all, I'm sorry for the repetition.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the information, Sanda - I have been wondering what would happen in such a situation. With all my computer problems, I tend to use my phone a lot to post the pictures and then add to it later - using the Edit function. I have the patterns, now I do have to get around to sewing those sundresses.
DeleteBeryl - Is 'public art' any classier? That's what it's called in Britain anyhow. I'm envious of your Joann's and Hancock's. We haven't nearly those options near Newcastle, where independent fabric stores seem mostly geared to making dance costumes. Look forward to hearing all about your sewing adventures! The Great British Sewing Bee has everyone worked up here!
ReplyDeletePublic Art? What an odd name for it. I agree that it doesn't say class. What is the Great British Sewing Bee? I haven't gotten around to finding out, but it does sound familiar. I love how the Internet is keeping sewing from being such a solitary activity. One of my favorite things about Oklahoma is all the Hancock's Fabric stores. There are very few in the West, but two within easy driving distance. And the Hobby Lobby stores' fabric departments are fun, too.
DeleteWe call it public art, and I would call that a modern sculpture. John is looking very smart and corporate indeed. No wonder they were all in a flurry! Hancock's looks like a lovely big fabric store; sadly they are all disappearing round here, and as Shelley says what is left largely feature dance costumes. However I for one refuse to give in, and seek fabric wherever I can. Oklamoma summer sounds like Brisbane summer - sundresses are key!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine a store devoted to dance costume fabrics and trim. But if you had granddaughters, you'd probably love them. Canada has some of the best fabric stores around - I love visiting them or doing the online ordering. You have made some great dresses - such an inspiration.
DeleteHow hilarious that you are married to "corporate inspection dude" - what a sssnappy dresser your hubs is! Loving that big dotty art piece!
ReplyDeleteYes, that's my John - what a cutie! What surprised me the most about that art was the color - I would have expected red or orange,
DeletePublic Art was my first thought too and I like the piece you show. Laughed at John getting the Joann's ladies in a dither. He does the corporate look quite well.

John's arrival even had the male manager out of his office and following him around trying to figure out if he was trouble.
DeleteBeryl - GBS Bee is all over the sewing internet:

And I believe you can watch it on Youtube (which I cannot in Britain, but I can here in France! Yea!).
Thanks! Having fun in France? Is it Paris this time? Eat a Macaron for me! I prefer Pierre Hermé, but Ladurée has a Licorice flavored one that is fabulous, but disconcertingly black, which is weird for food. (When I think of black food, blood sausage comes to mind - ick!) I think the name is Reglisse, but I could be confusing it with a perfume name.
DeleteI LOVE the Elephant Bar too. I always get the artichoke dip and for dessert that creme brulee!
ReplyDeleteThe first Elephant Bar I ever went to was in Sacramento. I was hooked by all the variety - the artichoke dip is wonderful. I usually get it with celery to dip because I love the cool crunch with the hot dip.
