Remember Your First Romantic Ideal?

They're bring the Disney Classic, Lady and the Tramp out in Blue Ray soon, which is a great excuse to play little snippets of it on TV. I know I'm not the only one whose idea of romance was formed the moment those two doggie noses met at the middle of that strand of spaghetti.

Here I am on my first day of school wearing one of the terrific dresses my mother made. And no, that's not a shadow around my left eye - I had a black eye from playing with my older brothers the day before.

  1. First of all, your picture is just adorable! That dress is precious! My first romantic ideal was Davey Jones!!! I thought he was sooooo cute! After that, it was Donny Osmond....oh how he made my heart pitter!! LOL To this day, I still think they're both PAINFULLY cute! BTW, thanks for your compliment about my store! I really do try to keep all sizes in it....not looking for just a tiny woman's shop..Thanks for looking! Hugs Beryl! ~Serene

  2. Hey Serene - First of all, (don't tell my husband), but Davey Jones can still make my heart flip flop. And I'm so glad you commented on the cute dress my mother sewed for me. I was feeling a little weird about it, since right after I posted it, I went and read one of the blogs I usually love, and it was all about how she "loathed" the clothes her mother made for her. (Not just hated, but actually "loathed".) And I thought I was so lucky whenever my mother could sew for me.
Donny Osmond is one of the funniest men alive. I always watch whenever he is on a talk show. And he is still just as cute today as ever. He tells this great story about being on Broadway in Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat and having a "wardrobe malfunction" that cracks me up every time I think of it.

  3. For some reason I've never been a Donny Osmond fan, but Davy Jones... My mom help be paint the Monkees' logo on my bedroom wall (she was an artist and I could paint my room any way I wished). I bought a teen magazine every week for stories about the Monkees, untl the fateful day when I read that Davy Jones was married. I never bought another one of their magazines (Tiger Beat? Teen Beat?). Probably saved me a fortune! I still have all my record albums, including the one Jones made aged 16...daft!

Yes, I'd probably enjoy watching those old Disney films again!

  4. You still have all your albums? Do you have something to play them on? My daughter took all our old albums, but hasn't looked for another player since her last one died.
You room sounds like it was super cool! How wonderful. That Davy Jones was a Heart Throb. And you ended up married to a Brit - coincidence?

  5. Oh, I love this. My mother made so many of my dresses when I was in grade school too...but sadly all of those photos are still in her possession. You have a halo of hair!

  6. Hey Terri! I don't have pictures of many of my mother's creations, but they live vividly in my brain, growing more twirly all the time. And my hair is a funny thing - until the Black is Beautiful movement, my hair was made fun of, and laughed at. Now it's oddly a style statement.

  7. Do you remember which of your evil older brothers gave you the black eye? Good! I don't remember either.

  8. Hi Don! Neither of you gave me the black eye - I was jumping around with you guys and fell and hit my head smack on my eye. You were a fabulous older brother to my five year old self.
