Vitamins, Anyone?

Do you take vitamins? I can't remember the last time I went a day without a Vitamin D supplement. I figure it's the price you pay for using so much sunscreen. Do you use sunscreen? When I was in Seattle, I used it everyday, making sure my hands, face, and wrists were always protected. So what am I doing now that I'm living someplace where there is actually some (and often lots) of sun? Constantly running out of sunscreen. So now I have a couple things on my Walgreen's list - more sunscreen and darker makeup, since I'm now too tan for the old stuff. And speaking of old makeup, did you know that there is a website that gives you the age of your makeup by using some code printed on it? Google it, if you don't believe me. I'm not checking mine, since if it looks good, I'm still wearing it, no matter how old it it - except for eye makeup. I'm not fooling with my sight. (And when it gets too old, you can get those raccoon eyes - ick!)

  1. I have gone through periods of taking vitamins but they tend to upset my stomach. I confess that I don't tend to use sunscreen much, other than on my face, the sun being so weak up here (and me being all bundled up most of the time). Most milk in the US is fortified with vitamin D, but not here in the UK. I eat quite a bit of oily fish and loads of veg. I checked the CDC website for vitamins and it was quite interesting. I don't tend to worry about the age of my make up. I'm quite skeptical about a lot of advice; I tend to think it's put out there by advertisers and it somehow gets taken on as 'scientific' fact. For example, I cannot ever remember hearing that one should drink at least 2 litres of water - not including other liquids - per day, until the bottled water industry was born. Well done you, wearing sunscreen. I have crocodile skin from baking myself in the Oklahoma sun for years and years.

  2. I have yet to find something that will consistently upset my stomach - except not getting enough sleep. You are so right about the how political the "health" advice has become. My latest craze is Pistachio nuts to lower the glycemic index when I have eaten too many "white carbs". Good excuse to eat something I already really like.
I find that my skin is so dry in Oklahoma, that I don't use as much sunscreen, since I have already greased up so much that the sunscreen won't soak in and just rubs off. My hands have aged 10 years in just 12 months.

  3. I have vitamins in the cupboard, but I am very hit or miss about taking them. Vitamin D is important...as my mother knows have a series of falls that were remedied by prescription strength D.

  4. Oh Terri, Your mother had to take presciption strength Vitamin D? That's like taking about 2000 time the basic amount. Glad it worked.
