Crickets, Mosquitoes, and Ticks, Oh My!

Who is giving those Oklahoma Insects steroids? I just don't get it - these guys are not just big, but they are tough. Luckily they don't appear to be any smarter, which is why I'm thinking it's steroids. (Although without a chance to check their teeny tiny little goodies, I am working with incomplete data.) Just last night I saw a mosquito sitting on the wall. I snuck up and whacked him. Result? Small dent in the wall. Even thought I hit him with more than enough force to dispatch a Seattle mosquito, this Oklahoma bug wasn't even dazed. But at least they hate my L'ocitant Verbena toilet water spray, just like the others.

John bought me these 10 toes Water shoes at REI in Dallas today. Aren't they odd?

  1. Beryl - I thought Oklahoma critters were awsome until I visited Australia, which is where I've been the last six weeks and is why I've been so scarce around here. Hope to catch up over the next few days (though I expect it will take me more like weeks...). I've always heard the cockroaches in Hawaii are very large, perhaps that's why I've never made it over there?? I'm glad you've found something to ward off the mosquitoes - they can carry pretty nasty diseases, as can ticks, but so far as I know crickets are just creepy and noisy. I try to avoid being out at dawn (as if) and dusk, which is when mozzies are most likely to be out in force. I can't tell you how glad I am to be back home in boring, relatively safe, old England. Looking forward to reading about what you've been up to!

  2. Cool shoes! Are they comfortable to wear?

  3. I have seen people wearing shoes like your new ones out and about as they shop...which I would say is a good sign that they are comfortable.

  4. Hi Shelley - I have a picture of a cockroach in Hawaii - it was huge. Six weeks away from home is a long time. Hope it was fun even with the big bugs!

  5. Hi Sanda - They felt pretty good in the store. I'll be wearing them for Water Aerobic tomrrow morning and report back after.

  6. Hi Terri - I think it would be almost confusing to wear these walking and shopping. Sort of like being barefoot or in just socks. Like the first time those loose elastic waist pants were in fashion and we all had to get used to being out in what felt like Pajama bottoms.
