There's A New Moth God In Town!

Ok, I was fooled the last time - that huge moth only pretended to be the one and only Moth God. How can I be sure? Now that I have lived a while (16 months) in Tulsa, I have become less surprised by truly enormous insects. But wow! Look at this guy! Do you think he knows he looks just like a leaf? He was sitting on the ground right in front of my garage. So I gave him his tribute (what, you thought that coin was for scale? I have silks and woolens to protect!), and backed over him into the garage. Yes, I remember all that stuff I wrote about backing into a garage being silly, like how it is easier to pour milk out of a bottle than to pour it back in, but it makes John happy on the odd occasion that he takes my car out. Well, Green Moth God didn't even budge. He (She?) just wiggled those long antennae in acknowledgement of the coin.

  1. That is a new moth in town - I've seen millions of the brown ones, but never one like this. It's enormous! And of course it looks just like a leaf... I'll be the birds think it's just like a 32 oz t-bone! Yum...

  3. Shelley, I hadn't even thought of the birds. This guy was so big, it never occurred that he could have any enemies. Actually, enemies is not accurate, since I am not the enemy of lettuce, but I enjoy eating a nice salad. That first huge moth I found stayed in the same place for over a week, and was still there after we moved.

  4. Oh Jill, she was fabulous! I made my husband come out and see her. (And this was 11 pm, when he is usually asleep.) Even he was impressed.

  6. Thanks, Terri! My friends in the pool at the Y thank you too, since now I could tell them the name of what I saw.
