Is There A Self-Help Guide For Proper Mother-In-Lawing For Poor Mortals Who Can't Turn Anyone Into A Toad?

In a month, I'm going to be a mother-in-law!  (That's right, my daughter is getting married and I can still make it all about me.)  But all I can think about it the old TV show, Bewitched, and the worst of all MIL's, Endora.  If Derwood treated her daughter badly, she would turn him into something odd.  Until he learned his lesson.  Pretty cool, especially considering what a disrespectful dufuss Darin Stevens was.  "No wife of mine is going to use witchcraft!"  How lame.  Well, I have no worries about my daughter's future husband, Mike.  He has such respect for her and this respect encourages her to be the best at whatever she wants to do.  I think Amanda is going to have fun!

  1. Oh Beryl! Congratulations!! My mother was actually a wonderful MIL...basically, she didn't butt in. I know at times it was probably hard for her not to voice her opinion, but she didn't. I'm trying to remember that for my time at the MIL role. Thanks for purchasing another scarf! I hope you like it....the one you got was actually one I held onto for a while thinking that I'd use it. So glad it went to a wonderful home! Happy Mother's Day my friend! Hugs! ~Serene

  2. Congrats! I became a MIL 4 years ago and it's wonderful, I finally have a "son". I have to tell you I have the BEST MIL in the world and even asked her to live with us at one time. Have fun...Happy Mother's (in-law) Day! Carla

  5. Gosh - you've just made me realise I'm a step-mother-in-law. I never thought about it that way before... Actually Helen's husband Martin and I get along like a house on fire - we tease each other constantly. I think MIL's tend to be more of a nightmare for their daughters-in-law than for spouses of daughters. No woman seems good enough for their precious son. Now I think about it, I can see that I'm far more critical of Simon's girlfriends than any of the girl's boyfriends....and he's not even mine! I'm glad to hear your daughter has chosen well - looks like she had a great role model!
