Most days the edge of my sink looks like this.  My husband has the sink nice and clean the night before so he can fill it with assorted vegetables and one apple to juice every morning.  He has been doing this for years.  This is that little annoying sticker that they put on the apple.  Now no clerk has to learn the difference between the various types of apples.  Eventually we may have no clerks at all and have to depend on a robot to ring up our apples.   Or maybe the point it that we now have so many different types of apples that even an computer couldn't recognize each individual type, so little stickers are needed.  If you are old enough you remember when there were just red or yellow apples - DDelicious, and some kind of pie apple - sour.  Then they added those Granny Smith ones.  Then Fuji.  Eventually more and more types cropped up.  And those few years when the friendly clerk would ask you what type of apples you put in your bag,  (I never lied to them.)  But now we are stuck with the sticker.

  1. I know, I dislike having to remove these stickers from my produce and I do the same thing John does....put them on the sink..LOL

  2. Ah, the minor irritants of modern life. I'm impressed that he juices every morning. DH is a fan of homemade juices and we've had some wild and beautiful ones (radish, anyone?)

  3. I, too, am impressed that he is so organized he places the items in the sink and is ready to juice in the mornings. I don't like those stickers on fruit either.

  5. Hi Jeanne, Sanda, Terri, and Jill! My husband does juice every morning (although never with radishes) and has his routine down pat now. Those stickers are a pain on an apple, but actually damage a pear or peach. I wish they would just quit using them.

  6. These occasionally turn up in our composting (because I forgot to take them off the banana peel).

I've lost track of the varieties of apple available here in Britain. I remember that I like to eat Royal Gala (Bill despises golden delicious which were my favourite in the States, something to do with them being too perfect - or from France, or something); Bramptons (giant green ones!) are for baking.

  7. Hi Shelley - I am going to look for Bramptons, since they sound very good. I agree with you about Goldens. They are usually perfect.
