My Mother, Her Personal Trainer, And His Wife At The Christmas 5K Run - Yes, This Is The Same Mother Who Turned 90 Last Year!

My mother is quite tall, much taller than I am, so this couple must both be well over 6 feet.  As a matter of fact, she used to be one of those Department Store Models that you see in movies from the 40's.  The shoppers sat in comfortable chairs and she would come out wearing various outfits - making shopping a very chic elegant affair.  I only got to see one picture of her doing this, but I think the store was called Robinson's,  I do know it was in Southern California.  Wouldn't it be delightful if they did that today?
But I digress - what this is about is my mother, who has always exercised, deciding to enlist the help of a professional to attain her fitness goal.  And just look at her!  Yeah!

  1. Wow, what an incredible woman is your Mother, Beryl! Good luck to her with her goals, whatever they are. She'll be celebrating 100 before you know it.

    1. Hi Patricia - I think she is evidence that exercise makes a huge difference. 100 doesn't seem that old when I'm around her.

    1. It wasn't until after all the kids were out of the house that she started exercising at a gym - water exercise to start. Love Water Aerobics - it's addictive.

  3. Good for your Mom, she looks great too. There used to be Robinson-May stores in SoCal so I'll bet you are right about where she was a model. I think the store was absorbed by the Macy's chain and unfortunately Macy's is not R-M like.

    1. Hi Darla - I remember the May Company now that you mention the name. And yes, Macy's is truly not like Robinson's or May. They had Tea Rooms and were such lovely stores.

  4. Your mom is beautiful! Hoorah for her. Keeping in shape has kept her young. I have to remember that!

    1. Hi Sanda - When we were little she used to do Yoga, so you're on the right track. In those days, you did Yoga out of a book. Much better to take a class, like you're planning.

  5. Oh, I'm in awe of your mom - I want to be just like her when I grow up! Ha. I was just thinking it would be wonderful if they had elegant models in department stores. There is much about the 'old days' (those before my time of course) to admire. That said, labour costs have had a lot to do with changing the world and it's not a bad thing when you think of it. My mom and her brother were exhibition ballroom dancers...that's another thing I don't guess happens much anymore.

    1. Hi Shelley - So cool that your mother and uncle were Exhibition Ballroom dancers - isn't that how Fred Astaire got started? She looks very attractive in the pictures you post and could have gone off to Hollywood if Ginger wasn't available. I love the BBC Mystery Agatha Christie's when they show that kind of elegant life.

  6. Good for your mother. That is inspiring.
My mother used to tell me about the fashionable stores. Not that she shopped there but she had friends who worked at places like that.

    1. Hi Alan - Not sure who shopped in those stores - maybe Lucille Ball? I think your other choices were more limited - Sears catalog or sewing your own clothes?
