Stylin' 70's Jacket! Is There Room On Your Christmas Tree For A Snail Ball?

Can you believe this snail sphere? It was $1.50 and I still didn't buy it. But I did carry it over to a spot with more light so I could get a better picture.

I almost never see home sewn clothes at our Goodwill, so this little jacket was quite the surprise. Depending on the era, it could have been for a male or female. Most definitely worn with the widest leg pant with a wide waistband. Maybe a Marlo Thomas pattern? Remember her? Do you think the kids these days have a clue how wild the 70's actually were? Even for us inhibited types. Good Times!

  1. Oh Beryl! I LOVE the 70s!!! The style was almost like the 20s in its elegant lines....That jacket is sooooo cool! Did you buy it? Hugs! Serene

  2. Oh, the Goodwill finds are marvelous. Yes, I can imagine that jacket with bell-bottoms and hair -- long and straight - down to our waists. (I ironed mine!) And don't forget the scarves tied on our heads, Rhoda-style. Remember that? You are so right, the young generation don't have a clue of "The way we were" back in the 60s and 70s!!

  3. Hey Serene - I didn't get the jacket, but it was pretty cute. I am saving my money for when you find another of that incredible Lillie Rubin pink skirt (that you just listed on Ebay) in a little bigger size. It is so beautiful.

  4. Thanks Sanda - That scarf is the finishing touch. Ironing your hair? You look too young to have done that. I had rollers the size of orange juice cans that I bought with babysitting money. I would sleep in them for special occassions. I remember how Rhoda and Mary wore the best clothes. And Marlo Thomas as "That Girl" with her great hair. What was her character's name - "Marie" was her last name. Off to Google it!

  5. Here's the Basil Vinaigrette recipe. It's the BEST I've EVER EATEN (guess it's the sugar):
    DRESSING
    1/2 CUP FRESH BASIL LEAVES
    3 CLOVES GARLIC, ROUGH CUT
1/2 CUP CIDER VINEGAR (I USE TARRAGON FLAVORED)
    SALT & PEPPER TO TASTE
    1/2 CUP SUGAR
    1 CUP CANOLA OIL
Chop basil and garlic in food processor or blender. Add vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper. Process until basil is smooth. Gradually add canola oil. Process until oil is incorporated. Refrigerate before using. Toss on salad greens just before serving.
USE ANY TYPE SALAD GREENS; I USE ROMAINE

    CHERRY TOMATOES
    FETA OR PARMESSAN CHEESE
COOKED & CRUMBLED BACON (REAL OR PACKAGED BITS)
    TOASTED WALNUTS
    DRIED CRANBERRIES
    CROUTONS
    PICKLED ARTICHOKES
POMMEGRANTE SEEDS WHEN IN SEASON ARE GREAT

Can use anything else you like: different nuts, green onions, black olives, different cheese...whatever)

  7. Hi Cindy! I was at the cute little Owasso Goodwill. I am also a fan of the Claremore one. I need to check out the one on Southwest, don't I?

  8. It's a great jacket. Did you buy it? I am always a sucker at GW for hand-knit sweaters...and have a few I haven't worn on the blog.

  9. Terri, it's funny you should mention hand knit sweaters - I bought a sleeveless one knit out of rayon ribbon for my daughter instead of the jacket. And someone bought that snail ball right after I left.
